Phulchoki Day Hike

The Phulchoki Day Hike is a nature lover’s delight, taking you to the highest hill surrounding the Kathmandu Valley at an elevation of 2,782 meters. Known as the “Hill of Flowers,” Phulchoki is famous for its rich biodiversity, especially during spring when the trail bursts with blooming rhododendrons, orchids, and other wildflowers. It’s an ideal escape for both foreign and local tourists seeking a peaceful yet invigorating day hike.

The hike typically begins from Godavari, about a one-hour drive from central Kathmandu. The trail steadily climbs through dense subtropical forests, home to a wide variety of birds, butterflies, and rare plant species. This makes Phulchoki a favorite not only for hikers but also for birdwatchers and botany enthusiasts.

At the summit, you’ll find a small temple, prayer flags, and communication towers. On a clear day, the views extend to the Himalayan range, including Langtang and Gaurishankar, as well as sweeping views of the Kathmandu Valley below.

The hike is moderately difficult, with a total round-trip duration of 6 to 7 hours, depending on pace and rest breaks. The descent follows the same route back to Godavari.
