Namaste! Trevor and I spent 7 soul-satisfying nights at Upper Mustang, courtesy of the hard and heart-work of Six Friend’s Trek.
Our compassionate and experienced guide was Shyam, our Karki Dhai. Driving us safely and professionally through the dusty and rough roads, was our punctual Acariya Dhai, Ribeks. And humbly assisting us for all occassions, is Aakas, our Rai Bhai. We are grateful for the Jeep, which made our journey so much more comfortable gave us more opportunities to explore Upper Mustang.
The itinerary was easy and relaxing. We had enough time, stops and stays to acclimatize to the high and changing altitudes.
It was enriching to visit the photogenic old Tibetan enclaves of Lo Manthang, Sarang, Chhusang and Ghami. There are so many hidden gems! We also enjoyed the fresh apples and Tibetan culinary delights. Overeating was the custom!
I was fortunate to find an old set of Para Sho, a Tibetan dice game. Thanks to Shyam, I can now play and enjoy this traditional game.

I highly recommend traveling in Nepal with Nirku Rai and the Six Friends Nepal Team. This team hosted hundreds of students and teachers from the International School of Kuala Lumpur and the Jakarta International School from 2010 through 2020.
Friendly, energetic and experts at guiding both student and family groups, their safety protocols were amazing. So was food preparation. We ate well, always had plenty of water to stay hydrated, and found the guides immensely patient with our varying levels of fitness. In the mountains and on the river, our students stayed healthy and happy. We loved rafting on the Trisuli River and trekking in the foothills of the Annapurna Range. The Six Friends Team arranged for us to be hosted by lovely communities in Chisapani and Pokhara where we were able to partner with community members on school projects that were so much fun.
The grace, hospitality and expert skill of this team is the absolute best~!!
