Nagarjun Day Hike

The Nagarjun Day Hike offers a peaceful retreat into nature, just minutes away from the bustling heart of Kathmandu. The trail typically begins from the Balaju Bypass area, where an entrance gate leads into a dense forest of oak, pine, and rhododendron. The well-maintained path climbs steadily to the Nagarjun Viewpoint, also known as Jamacho Gompa, a Buddhist monastery situated at an altitude of 2,128 meters. At the summit, hikers are greeted with panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley, as well as distant Himalayan peaks like Langtang and Ganesh Himal on clear days.

The hike is of easy to moderate difficulty, making it suitable for families, beginner trekkers, and nature enthusiasts. The total duration is around 4 to 5 hours round-trip, depending on pace and rest time. The trail is shaded and quiet, offering a peaceful walk through nature with chances to spot birds, monkeys, and other wildlife.

  • It is better to take Experienced guides as it is very easy to get lost. At peak winter snowfall might occur.
